Both open the same search experience. The modal appears over any page without losing your current context.
What Gets Searched
Global search queries five entity types simultaneously:

Results are grouped by type, so you can scan each category independently.
Searching by Number
Type an issue or capability number, with or without the #: 27 and #27 find the same item. A Number group comes first in the results with the item that carries that number. A single digit is enough to start a number search.
If nothing carries the number, the search says so (“No item has number 27”) and still lists the text matches, so a number that appears in a title is not lost. Templates and items of other organizations are never returned.
The same applies to issue and capability selectors (the item with that number is the first option) and to the issue lists, whose search field also finds an issue by its number.
Recently Viewed
When you open search with an empty query, Sinra shows your recently viewed items instead of a blank state. This makes global search useful as a navigation tool, not just a search tool.

Scope
Search results are scoped to your current organization. You will never see results from another organization even if you are a member of multiple organizations.
Results are also filtered by your authorization level. Issues in projects you do not have access to will not appear.
